After a great deal of consideration, I have decided to share my personal experiences during an ongoing 2 1/2 year lawsuit. Some of the events may be shared in real time, others will be long after the fact as I catch everyone up on the past 30 months.
This continues to be a real opportunity for personal growth and a test of character. I have certainly failed at times and succeeded at times to be the person I hope to be when facing trials. Feel free to ask questions and share.
The parties:
- Plaintiff (party who filed the suit): Valeo Financial Advisors, LLC
- Lead Attorney for Plaintiff: Andrew W. Hull of Hoover Hull Turner, LLP
- He is a pretty big deal, representing major clients in big issues
- Representing IBM in numerous suits with the State of Indiana over $1.6 billion contract
- Named 2017 Lawyer of the Year for ERISA litigation
- Certainly ideal for chasing down a supposed claim under $40,000 (can't be specific as they have changed the number, but that's for another day).
Andy and me meeting at his Indy office
- Co-counsel for Plaintiff: Michael J. Blinn of Hoover Hull Turner LLP
- Defendant (party who is being sued): Aaron Coates (me)
- Attorney for Defendant - None! 😨
- Long story that will be addressed in future posts. But hey, I have survived 30 months, right? Not sure that survival is a good indication of success, stupidity, or maybe even impending doom. But we'll all find out together!
- Judge: the Honorable Heather Welch
- Here's a nice bio article
- This is an interesting post on Judge Welch recusing herself. Not sure if it has any merit, and don't believe it suggests any concerns, just found it to be interesting.
- The Indianapolis Bar rankings consistently place her near the top of all judges in Indy.
